The Camden County Sheriff's Office is currently unsure whether foul play was the cause of a house fire and a death that occurred Aug. 29 off Harrietts Bluff Road.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., Camden County Fire Rescue responded to a house fire at 87 Windsor Circle. When firefighters arrived they found heavy smoke and had the fire under control approximately 45 minutes later.
Once the fire was controlled, firefighters searched the home for any occupants and found a victim. The victim is suspected to be Michael Ryan Foley, 18, of Woodbine, but he has not been officially identified. Foley's obituary is on Page 2. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.
The cause of the fire and cause of death are currently being investigated by the State Fire Marshal's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), said Capt. Wesley Walker, public information officer with the Camden County Sheriff's Office.
"The body has been sent to the crime lab for a criminal investigation by the GBI for arson or foul play," Walker said. "We are waiting on the autopsy results to determine the cause of death and identification of the body."
Walker added that the investigation could take several days or months before it is complete.
