Edward J. Gushen Jr., our beloved husband, father and Pop passed on to his next chapter on Oct. 27, 2021, in Lake City, Florida. He was born in Bethesda, Maryland, on April 12, 1948.

He was raised as a “Navy brat” traveling the world with his parents, often talking of his years spent in Taiwan.

After high school, he followed in his father's footsteps by joining the US Navy and becoming a cryptologic technician within the Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA). He travelled the world by subs from Hawaii to Hong Kong. Although he eventually made it to shore duty at the best kept secret in the Navy, RAF Edzell, Scotland NSGA. He eventually retired out of NSGA Headquarters in Washington, DC.

After retiring from the Navy, he took on the role of babysitter and followed his daughter and son-in-law around the country to each of their duty stations. Eventually settling permanently in Kingsland in 2001 — where he became one of the biggest Camden County Wildcats fans.

He was a lifelong member of the Naval Cryptologic Veteran Association as well as a Lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Kingsland.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Edward J. Gushen and Louise E. Gushen, and his brother, Russell P. Gushen. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lily F. Gushen; his daughter, Yolanda (Jason) Ramsey; grandson Brice (Lindsey, fiancé) Ramsey and granddaughter Morgan (Sean) Farrell; his sister, Sandy (Steve) Grozbean; brother, John (Kathy) Gushen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins all over the world.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Camden County Quarterback Club, P.O. Box 6371, St Marys, GA 31558.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 18 at Three Rivers Church in St. Marys followed by a full military honor interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
