Lila L. Farmer, 55, of Clarksville, Va., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. She was born in Jonesport, Maine.

Lila is survived by her husband of 32 years, Frank Farmer.

For more than 30 years, Lila worked for the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) as a consultant and meeting logistics officer. Her boss, Noah Brown, stated that she was fiercely independent.

Her interests were spending time walking and playing with her Labradors, gardening, swimming, fishing, jet skiing, shopping and spending time with her family and friends.

Lila was a devoted, caring, loving wife, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt and friend.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Claire Cowan; father, Paul Brown; and brother, Paul Brown Jr.

Left behind are her devoted family members: sisters, Christine Clark of St. Marys and Karen Young of Bristow, Va.; brothers, Edward Brown of Woodbridge, Va., Tony Brown of Bristow, Va., and Michael Smith of Machias, Maine. Also, brothers-in-law, Paul Farmer Sr. of Loudoun, Va., Ronald Farmer of Manassas, Va., and Roger Kidwell of Elizabeth City, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Holly Farmer of Loudoun, Va., Diane Kidwell of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Amy Brown of Bristow, Va.; uncles, Joe Ryan of North Reading, Mass., and Jimmy Ryan of Exeter, N.H.; and aunt, Elaine Silvia of Cape Cod, Mass.

Also left behind are her nieces and nephews, Edward Dwayne Brown Jr. of Bristow, Amy Hendricks of St. Marys, Ashley Young of Bristow, Faith and Joshua Brown of Bristow, Amanda Smith of Machias, Maine, Ashley Billings of Sullivan, Maine, Casey Jones of Fairfax, Va., P.J. Farmer and Katie O’Brien of Loudoun, Va., Chrissie Rankins of Fredericksburg, Va., Earl Kidwell and Shelly Johnson of Locust Grove, Va., and Alan Kidwell of Flint Hill, Va.

Also, great-nieces and great-nephews, Ryan and Emma Hendricks of St. Marys, Connor and Hailey Brown of Bristow, MacKenzie Smith-Preston of Machias, Aidan Preston of Machias, Mykayla Billings of Sullivan, Maine, McKenzie, Courtney and Madeline Jones of Fairfax, Va., Morgan and Payton Farmer of Loudoun, Va., Ava Marie O’Brien of Loudoun, Jason Rankins and Ryan Rankins of Culpeper, Va., Carissa Butler and Amber Johnson of Locust Grove, Va., Blake Kidwell of Camden, N.C., Dustin Kidwell of Fredericksburg, Va., Ronda Richie of Gainesville, Va., and Margaret Kelly of Great Falls, Va.

Also left behind are her loving Labrador companions, Hunter, Ketch and Flash. Her beloved Labrador, Che-Che, predeceased her.

A memorial service and “Celebration of Life for Lila” will be held Saturday, June 14, at the VFW Post Hall in Clarksville, Va. More information will be posted closer to June 14.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Clarksville Veterinary Clinic, P.O. Box 1736, Clarksville, Va. 23927, made payable to The Lila Farmer Labrador Foundation. This foundation was created in memory of Lila and will provide medical services for canines in need.
