Originally from Richmond, Va., Jim and his wife, Virginia (Ginny), moved to St. Marys 20 years ago and quickly made this their home. Jim served on the board of the Humane Society of Camden County, St. Marys Library Board and was very active in the local tennis community.
An avid reader, he recently wrote and published a humorous memoir about the adventures of a long marriage. He and Ginny would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on March 4. Famous for his thriftiness, he decided to check out a day early and save himself the cost of a gift.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Ginny; three children, Martha Dyer (Kevin) of Atlanta, Jami Elizondo (Steve) of Raleigh, N.C., and Mark Caskey (Carrie) of Charlotte, N.C. Their six grandchildren are Jake and Brett Elizondo, Caskey and Molly Dyer and Mason and Harper Caskey. Jim also leaves behind his beloved dog, Ditto.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Golden Isles Hospice, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525; Camden County Humane Society, 950 S. Grove Blvd., Kingsland, GA 31548; or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
