A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1694 Bird St, Rock Hill, with Father Agustin Guzman officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
Born in Woodbury, N.J., Dr. Haney was a son of the late John Daniel Haney and the late Mary Augusta Bell Haney. He was a graduate of the University of Alberta in Canada and received his doctorate from the University of Mississippi.
He retired in St. Marys from the CIA, and was also a college professor at Georgia Southern. He attended The Oratory and enjoyed golf, guns and baseball.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Sylvia Matras Haney; his sons, David Russell Haney of Douglas, and Keith Douglas Haney and his wife, Gretchen, of Rock Hill; his brothers, Dan Haney and his wife, Annabelle, of Upperville, Va., Rick Haney of Laguna Beach, Calif., and Pete Haney and his wife, Robin, of Lethbridge, Alberta; and his grandchildren, Ben Haney of Douglas, and Tyler Blankman, Samuel, Justin, Lucy and Gianna Haney, all of Rock Hill. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Gemma Haney.
The family received friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill. A vigil was held at 7 p.m., officiated by Father Fabio Refosco.
