Hattaway was born in West Palm Beach, Fla., on March 4, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Lou Ella McClellan and Thomas Clayton Deese Sr.
She and her husband, Ernest, were married in December 1954, and they shared nearly 60 years of marriage. Hattaway was a former ceramics instructor, retired real estate broker, and ordained minister with Iglesia de la Palabra Viviente in Talladega, Ala.
Some of her pastimes include knitting, world travel, wildlife watching and, most of all, she enjoyed sharing her faith with others.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest R. Hattaway of Kingsland; and her six children, Daniel E. Hattaway of Knoxville, Tenn.; Gerald W. Hattaway of Tulsa, Okla.; Marvin C. Hattaway of Knoxville, Tenn.; Pamela A. Wisecup (Robert) of Danielsville; Timothy D. Hattaway (Susan) of Kingsland; and the Rev. James W. Hattaway (Eva) of Lineville, Ala. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, her two sisters, Ida Bailey (Allen) of Exmore, Va., and Norma Faulkner of Lakeland, Fla., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Coastal Camden Funeral Home, 935 E. King St., Kingsland, GA 31548. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at Coastal Camden Funeral Home with the Rev. Juan Rodriguez officiating.
Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her many friends from Kingsland Fire Rescue, Camden County Fire Rescue, and Excelcare Ambulance Services.
Graveside interment services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Fla., with her son the Rev. James W. Hattaway officiating.
