Carl Jenkins Sr., 74, of St. Marys passed away from this earthly life on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.

Carl Jenkins Sr. was the eldest of 13 siblings born to the late Thomas and Vernita Jenkins on Jan. 5, 1940. He was raised in St. Marys (fondly known as Woodsville) by his parents and by the late Verdie Hubbard Rhone, his beloved Grannie. He was a faithful member of Young Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and was ordained as a deacon on April 10, 2005.

Carl was a man of faith who prayed that his steps would be ordered by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He loved and cared for his family immensely, and was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Patricia, for 44 years. He led by example through a tremendous work ethic and was an inspiration to many. Carl had the gifts of giving and wisdom; he blessed many in the spirit of love.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, and his children, Karen Dannette Jordan (Robert), Carmelita Bradford (Ed) and Carl Jr. (Brunilda); all of his brothers and sisters, Edward (Lydia), George (Janie), Barbara, Joice, Eloise (Harvey), Thomas Jr. (Linda), Thomasina, Betty, Freddie, Erma, Gloria, Kathy and a brother in spirit, Eddie Lee Rhone (Maria).

He faithfully contributed to the lives of three daughters in spirit, Valarie Harris (Nathan), Rosalyn Floyd and Vanessa Floyd. Carl loved and nurtured eight grandchildren, Alexis Way, Robert Jordan III, T. Jay Dawson, Karen Jenkins, Marquise Harrell, LeMar Harrell, Brunilda Jenkins and Carissa Jenkins. Watching him with his four great-grandchildren, Alijah, Asaiah, Alana and El’Ayah, was a true joy. His godsons, Sean Mungin and Jaden Priester, also held a special place in his heart.

Those who came to know Carl observed firsthand a man who was loved deeply by his wife, who raised grateful children and who gave the best of himself to his grandchildren, brothers, sisters, extended family and those he called friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, at Young Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Sunset Funeral Home was in charge of final arrangements.
