John Marshall Love, 80, of St. Marys died peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2014, following a brief illness.

Born on Jan. 30, 1934, in Marshallville, he was the son of the late Floyd P. and Gladys T. Love. He spent his formative years in Cuthbert, and was preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd and Richard.

A graduate of Georgia Tech, Mr. Love was hired by Gilman Paper Company in 1960. He retired in 1999 as senior vice president of industrial relations.

During his career, Mr. Love served on the board of directors of professional, financial, governmental and academic entities. One of his greatest honors was serving on the President’s Council for Georgia Tech.

Mr. Love was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed golf and supported his beloved Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He and his wife, Linda, have been active in charitable and civic endeavors in St. Marys for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Linda C. Love; two sons, John M. Love Jr. (Christy) of Lake Asbury, Fla., and Michael C. Love of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Wendy M. Dye (Scott) of Watkinsville; five grandchildren, Justin Dye, Amelia Dye, Caitlyn Owens, Payton Owens and Rylee Love; and three sisters-in-law, Aileen Love of West Point, Lena Love of Pasadena, Texas, and Mary Ann Blackburn (Joe) of Dublin.

The family received visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Allison Memorial Chapel, located at 10141 Colerain Road in St. Marys. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 12, at Oak Grove Cemetery.
