Judson A. Haviland Jr., 67, of St. Marys passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the VA Hospital in Gainesville, Fla.

Born March 15, 1947, in Neptune, N.J., he was the son of the late Catherine E. and Judson A. Haviland Sr.

Jud was raised in Asbury Park, N.J., and lived in Wall Township, N.J., for 30 years before retiring to St. Marys in 2004. He owned and operated the party boat, “The Ranger” in Belmar, N.J., during the 1970s. Thereafter, he repaired and restored many wooden boats throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties in New Jersey.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the presidential yacht under President Lyndon B. Johnson, and served his country honorably during the Vietnam Era. He was considered an extremely talented man, devoted husband, loving father and “world’s best” Pop-Pop. He will be dearly missed by many.

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Ruth Haviland of St. Marys; daughter, Kati Maguire and husband, Shaun, of St. Marys; and his beautiful grandchildren, Sarah, Judson, Luke and Molly.

Private memorial services will be held by the family at a later date.

Allison Memorial Chapel of St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.
