Franklin Delano “Frank” Avery, 78, of St. Marys died Thursday morning (Oct. 31, 2019) at Community Hospice and Palliative Care in Fernandina Beach, Fla., after an extended illness.
Mr. Avery was born in Stone Mountain to the late Harold George Avery Sr. and Maggie Francis Wells Avery and had made St. Marys his home for the past 20 years. He retired from Nokia, but was a managing supervisor for Southern Bell for many years. He enjoyed boating, fishing and any chance he could manage to get on the water. Mr. Avery loved his family and spending time with them. He was a member of First Baptist Church St. Marys.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Harold Avery Jr.
Mr. Avery is survived by his wife, Susan Nash Avery of St. Marys; two children, John Avery (Beth) of Newnan and Ken Avery (Melissa) of Daytona Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, Wesley Avery, Dale Avery, Kathy Avery, Jonathan Avery (Rebecca) and Kelsey Gentry (Chris); three great-grandchildren, Addie Gentry, Lily Avery and Jules Avery; a sister, Arlene Downs of Stockbridge; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in the Allison Memorial Chapel. The family will be receiving friends beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Vernon Dillingham will be officiating.
