Apostle Christine L. Brown-Dawson, 72, of Kingsland passed away on Aug. 12, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Aug. 16, 1943, to the late Flossie Victoria Taylor and William Arthur Brown in Gross, Fla., in Nassau County. She was educated in Camden County and graduated in the Ralph J. Bunche class of 1960.
After graduating high school, she attended trade school in Brunswick, studying culinary arts. Ms. Christine was employed as a dietician at several restaurants to include The Firebird Truck Stop and Gilman Kraft Bag Plant before retiring.
At an early age, Ms. Christine became a member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church as a youth and later in 1986 she joined New Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Gross (Yulee, Fla.) where she became a full-fledged member and ordained apostle.
In 1965, Apostle Christine Brown-Dawson met Deacon James Edward Dawson Sr. and they were joined in holy matrimony in 1967 and to this union two children were born, James Jr. and Ivy. She enjoyed praising God, spending quality time with her family cooking and baking her signature sweets for all to enjoy.
Apostle Christine was preceded in death by both parents, Flossie Victoria Taylor Brown and William Arthur Brown; her loving husband of 44 years, James E. Dawson Sr.; and a sister that she raised as her own, Delores Brown-Holmes.
Those left to cherish her memories are her three loving daughters, Dallice Douglas Mitchell (Wesley) of Kingsland, Flossie Eakins (Darrell Sr.) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ivy Dawson of Kingsland; two loving sons, William Douglas Dawson (Wanda) of Kingsland and James Dawson Jr. of Lake Mary, Fla.; a special son that she raised as her own, Antonio Tyson Sr. (Sherri) of Port Wenworth; her stepmother, Rubye Brown of Yulee, Fla.; her loving grandchildren, Jinada, Tim, Kristopher, Darrell Jr. (Lauren), Darrin, Deion, Kimberly, Ronald Sr., Javario, Donnisha, Javante, Shantaé (Kendell Sr.), Keisha, Korenski, Diallo (Kaiaia), LaRae, Joe, Jeremy, Shalanda, Shamya, Eric Sr., India (Lavelle), Ina, Oscar, Vyctoria (Marc), Antonio II (Cherie), Aye’Anna, Courtnie, Courtney and Adell; her great-grandchildren, Jaelin, Kimbreyunia, Ronald Jr., Inaya, Isyss, Ty, Liana, Jaison, Eric Jr., Asia, Zaiden, Tiara, Jackson, London, Journeé, Soryn, Joya, Oscar Jr., Lindsey, Allen, Cirenity, William, Shamri and Kendell Jr.; her sisters that she raised as her own, Alice Brown, Jacquelyn Brown-Coleman and Shyrel Brown-Mack; her brother, Deacon Leroy Holmes (Carmen); her brothers-in-law, Deacon Roosevelt Jr. (Agnes), Deacon Arthur Lee (Linda), Deacon Howard (Robine); her sisters-in-law, Bertha Dawson, Deloris Dawson, Mansaline Everett, Naomi Dawson, Kathy Jones, Queen Dawson, Ruby Dawson and Dorothy Myers; her godchildren, Harold Jr., Amanda, Tracy; extended family members, Woodrow, Monlyn Jr., Coleman, Annette, Danielle, Amber, Khalil, Timothy, Lynn, Jerry, Katherine, Devante, Hannah, Franklin, Cassandra, Demonja, Bishop Thomas K. Coleman Sr., Donnice, Danielle, Thomas Jr., Destiny, LaCandace; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The wake/visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at New Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church on Highway 17 in Yulee.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1365 Kinlaw Road in Woodbine. Interment will be in Mallet Cemetery.
