Roberta Campbell, 99, passed away peacefully Friday, March 30, 2018, at the Southeast Georgia Health System Senior Care Center in St. Mary after spending a joyous week with all of her family.

Roberta Campbell was born in Camden County on Sept. 5, 1918, the seventh child of the late Mr. Ammie Lee Johnson Sr. and Mrs. Carrie Bell Way Johnson. Having lived in Kingsland her entire life, she was educated in Camden County schools and worked in the community as a cosmetologist. She married Mr. Lonnie Campbell on March 18, 1950, who preceded her in death. 

Roberta Campbell confessed Christ at an early age. She joined St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church at the age of 8 under the pastorate of the Rev E.H. Warley. Knowing Jesus as her Savior and willing to work for the up building of His kingdom, she diligently served in several ministries at St. Paul.  Her service included church clerk from 1960-1977; class leader for a number of years; Sunday school superintendent; president, stewardess board No. 1; member of the trustee board; missionary president for more than 50 years; choir president; and one of the first ushers of the church.

Licensed as a minister under the auspices of the Old Georgia Annual Conference of the 6th Episcopal District, Sister Campbell could be found preaching and teaching the Word of God throughout Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida. She was a prayer warrior and on any given day, she could be found fervently praying, praising and worshiping the Lord who she loved with all of her heart, mind and soul.

Mrs. Campbell leaves to forever celebrate her life, a son and daughter-in-law, Tommie and Gladys Mitchell of Savannah; five grandchildren, Sabrina Glover (Marshall) of Woodbine, Delphyne Joseph of Kingsland, Yolanda Williams (Varick) of Artesia, Calif., Kim Mole (Richard) and Taryll Mitchell (Michele) of Pooler; seven great-grandchildren, Sharmaine Dallas (Derrick) of St. Marys, Taj Glover (Marie) of Richmond Hill, Corey Williams of Atlanta, Kayla and Nicholas Williams of Artesia, Calif., Victoria and Tiffani Mitchell of Savannah; three great-great-grandchildren, Ambrionna Dallas of Tallahassee, Fla., and Taylor Glover and Tony Rhodes of Richmond Hill; special goddaughter, Sharon Griffin of St. Marys; goddaughter, Lucy Patterson of St. Marys and godson, Lonnie Samuels of Las Vegas; caretaker and special friend, Pearlie Mae Cobbs of Kingsland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Lonnie Campbell; son, Mr. Silas Johnson; and siblings, Mrs. Marjorie Williams, Ms. Sally Johnson, Mr. Chancey Johnson, Mr. Ammie Lee Johnson Jr., Mrs. Etta Mae Holmes and Mrs. Lola Bell Bryant. 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 6, at St. Paul AME Church. Interment will be in Kingsland Cemetery.
