Elder JoAnn B. Collins passed away Nov. 19, 2016. She was born on March 25, 1951, to the late Arthur Bessent Jr. and Willie Mae Wesley in Kingsland. She was educated in the public school system of Camden County at Ralph J. Bunche High, graduating in the class of 1969.

Elder Collins was a member of the Cathedral of Deliverance in Jacksonville, Fla., under the leadership of Bishop Charles Eicrhelberger Sr. and was the former wife of William Collins. She was employed with Union Carbide, Joshua Christian Academy, Singleton’s Senior Center, McDonald’s and she did private home sitting. JoAnn enjoyed cooking and was known for her pound cakes and she loved singing.

She was preceded in death by both parents, Arthur and Willie Mae Bessent Jr.; two brothers, Oscar and Alexander Bessent; and a sister, Arthur Mae Bessent.

Those left to cherish her memories include a niece that she raised as her own, Monica Bessent Wade of Kingsland; three sisters, Phyllis (Roosevelt) Rhone of St. Marys, Patricia Gibbs of Woodbine and Edna Johnson of Brunswick; a brother, Malachi Beyah of Jacksonville; three aunts, Cora Andrews and Vera Bullard, both of Kingsland and Nora Smith of Hinesville; an uncle, David (Deloris) Bullard of Atlanta; a granddaughter, Shantay Gibbs of Kingsland; her godchildren, Tremad Dunham, Shereaqse Parker and  Sequoya Hill; her special friend, Justine Ford of Kingsland; and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins and friends.

There will not be a wake/visitation.

Remains will lie in state one hour prior to services on Saturday. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 26, at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1365 Kinlaw Road in Woodbine.

Final arrangements entrusted to Royal Funeral Home Inc. in Jesup.
