Ira D. Crews Sr., 78, of Woodbine passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
Born Sept. 28, 1938, in Blackshear, he was the son of the late Ira B. and Nola D. Crews. He was also preceded in death by four siblings, Elnita, Tom, Willie and Bennie.
Mr. Crews had been a resident of Camden County since 1958 and was retired from Gilman Paper Company with 38 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and telling stories and loved to laugh and have fun. He attended the First Baptist Church of Kingsland and was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country honorably.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at the First Baptist Church in Kingsland with Pastor Brian Parker, Pastor James Roberson and Rev. Sheldon Rowell officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be private.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Williams, J.W. Moody, Billie Joe Hinman, Theron Strickland, Clifton Roberson and Donnie Crews.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Claryce Rowell Crews of Woodbine; daughters, Lori Ann Crews (Bryan) of Alabama, Susan Walker (Chris) of Kingsland; sons, Ira Donihue Crews Jr. (Barbara) of Woodbine and Scott Crews of Pierson; five grandchildren, Adam, Noel, Shelby, David and Jason; six great-grandchildren, Elloise, Landon, Levi, Hayden, Bristol and Addison; sister, Mary Strickland of Hortense; aunt, Alta Dowling of Blackshear; and many nieces and nephews that he loved so much.
The family requests contributions in memory of Mr. Crews be made to the First Baptist Church of Kingsland or the American Lung Association.
