Eugene (Gene) K. Deaton, 62, of St. Marys passed away Sept. 12, 2017, after a brief illness.
In 2001, he retired as a chief petty officer after a 23-year career in the U.S. Navy submarine service. The boats he served on were the USS Wahoo (Groton, Conn.), DSRV (North Island, Calif.), USS Darter (Sasebo, Japan), USS Batfish (Charleston, S.C.), USS Tunny (Pearl Harbor, Hawaii) and USS West Virginia (Kings Bay).
After working at East Coast Concrete for five years, he joined the team of Northrop Grumman maintaining submarines.
Gene is survived by his wife Dianne; daughters, Lorri Jones and Becky Sumrall; and granddaughters Caillie, Dianna and Lily. He also leaves behind sister Glenna Meade and brother Bobby Deaton.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Allison’s Funeral Home.
