Amos Ezekiel Gibbs Sr., 86, of Kingsland answered his final call from God on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, surrounded by his family.
Brother Amos Gibbs was born Feb. 27, 1930, in the Kinlaw community, to the late Henry Gibbs and Elizabeth Dilworth Bonnerman. He joined Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Amos worked for ITT Rayonier for 35 years in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Amos was married to the late Evelyn Irene Gibbs for 61 years. To this union six children were born. Preceding him in death were one son, Alfonza, and two brothers, Mack Dilworth Jr. and Dewey Gibbs.
He leaves to cherish his memory five loving children, Amos (Geraldine) Gibbs Jr., Vernestine Gibbs and Katrina Gibbs all of Kingsland, Darryl (Tawana) Gibbs of St. Marys and Rayford (Seaner) Gibbs of Darien; four sisters, Lola Morris, Cindy (Walter) Smith, Loretta Dilworth all of Kingsland and Geraldine Gibbs Solomon of Bronx, N.Y.; three sisters-in-law, Lily Delores James, Delia Mae Joseph and Murriell Glover all of Kingsland; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one goddaughter, India Gibbs; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church. A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Kinlaw Cemetery.
