David Hugh Howard, 69, of Kingsland and Jesup died Friday, March 24, 2017, in Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., after an extended illness.
The Wayne County native had lived the past 15 years in Kingsland, was a member of Kingsland First Baptist Church and grew up in Akin United Methodist Church. He was a long-term Jesup Lions Club member in which he held several state office jobs and also served as a Gideon International Bible representative.
His parents, Horton and Maude Howard, preceded him in death.
Survivors are his wife of 29 years, Valerie Darley Howard of Kingsland; daughter, Dixie (Chris) Dozier of Ludowici; sons, David “Bubba” (Sharmon) Howard of Ludowici, Dustin (Mandy) Howard of Woodbine and Sam Howard of Kingsland; seven grandchildren; sisters, Ann H. (Carl) Torkildsen of Brunswick, Nell Proudfoot and Gracie (Bobby) Groover, both of Mt. Pleasant; brothers, Maxie
(Theresa) Howard of Marion, Texas, Donnie (Betty) Howard and Alvin (Jackie) Howard, both of Jesup; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, at Kingsland First Baptist Church with Dr. Brian Parker officiating. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Akin Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
Active pallbearers will be Steve Lanier, Henry Buchannon, Noah Howard, Grayson Howard, John Evans, Trent Wells, Cody Anderson and Keith Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Gideon International and the John McDonald Sunday school class of Kingsland First Baptist Church.
Visitation was 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home, 860 Highway 301 South, Jesup, GA 31546.
