Mitchell

On Feb. 19, 1938, God allowed a very special child, Mr. Lonnie “Bryant” Mitchell, to be birthed into this world to the late Lonnie Jackson Mitchell and Nancy Gertrude Way Mitchell.

He departed this life on Wednesday morning, Sept. 20, 2017, at his home located at 1800 Kinlaw Road in Woodbine. He received his education from Ralph Bunche High School and soon after enlisted in the Army Reserve where he served for two years. He then began work at Gilman Paper Company where he retired in 2001 after 35 years of service.

Deacon Mitchell was a devoted member and head deacon at Georgia Avenue Church of God under the leadership of Elder T.J. Myers and Bishop Arthur Dawson. Later he became a member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in 2001 under the leadership of Dr. Leon Washington.

Deacon Mitchell was preceded in death by both parents; his son, Gary Jerome Mitchell; a sister, Louise Mitchell-Dawson; brothers, Albert, Clyde and Clarence Mitchell; and a special aunt, Ruth Morris.

Those left to cherish his most precious memories are his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Minister Lula Way Mitchell; a faithful son, Mark Allen Mitchell (Yasmen); his sister, Hattie Lee Wilson (Billy); four grandchildren, Judah, Joshua, Anna and Lydia; five sisters-in-law, Joyce Harvey (Sylvester), Agnes Abdullah, Lillie B. Lanier, Fostina Mithell and Barbara Way; many other devoted nieces who he also helped raise, Sharon Sibley and Karen Flowers; his devoted friends, Deacon Ed and Rose Andrews; his godchildren, Missy Joseph and Connie Foster as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

There will not be a wake/visitation. Remains will lie in state for an hour prior to services. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1365 Kinlaw Road in Woodbine. Interment was in Kinlaw Cemetery in Kingsland.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day,” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
