Mr. Roy C. Nelson, 94, of Landing Drive in Kingsland passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at UF Health in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mr. Nelson was born on Sept. 25, 1921, in Mobile, Ala. He was the son of Roy and Annie Mae Bishop Nelson.
His family said of him: “Roy was a storytelling, fish-wrangling, game-hunting, avid outdoorsman. He has handed down the fine art of fish frying to multiple generations and has fed many families the best greens and tomatoes south Georgia has to offer grown in his very own garden. He could fix anything, or at least ‘rig it up.’ Roy was a war hero and our hero, and he will be in our hearts forever.”
Mr. Nelson is survived by his beloved wife, Rosa Lee; his children, Bernard (Chris) Nelson of Vidalia, Joseph (Nancy) Nelson of Lyons, Danny (Connie) Nelson of Boone, N.C., Dale (Charles) Joiner of Snellville, Kirk (Ronna) Nelson of Lake Oconee, Cliff (Kathy) Johnson of Galveston Island, Texas, Wayne Johnson of Kingsland, Janice Campbell of Kingsland, Dan (Michelle) Johnson of Mooresville, N.C., and Donald (Lynn) Johnson of Kennebunkport, Maine; and his numerous loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Mr. Nelson joins his son, Tommy Nelson, in Heaven.
The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, at Southeast Community Church in Kingsland. A memorial services was held after at 2 p.m. with Pastor Danny Nelson presiding.
