Jean Arlene Phillips, 80, of St. Marys died peacefully Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.
Jean was born March 15, 1936, in Lynchburg, Va., and was the daughter of the late Alvin and Janie Stump. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Phillips; sisters, Ernestine Carter, Katheline Whitehead, Jeanette Morrow and Francis Standland; and brothers, Henry Stump and W.L. Stump.
Jean thoroughly enjoyed being involved with children and she was very active in her church. She organized birthday parties, taught gymnastics and crafts, taught Sunday school and was a dedicated fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Jacksonville Jaguars. She also enjoyed fishing and spending time with her family. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and the great love and affection she showed to all who knew her.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Debbie Anderson of St. Marys and Michelle Stanland and husband Erik of Yulee, Fla.; stepdaughter, Sandra Call and husband Dennis of St. Marys; sister, Mary Jane Seidel of Yulee; brother, Butch Eaton and wife Bonnie of Yulee; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a number of other relatives and close friends.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at First Presbyterian Church in St. Marys with the Rev. Rick Douylliez and Pastor Jonny Rodgers officiating.
Graveside services followed at Burnt Fort Cemetery. The family received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Allison Memorial Chapel.
Pallbearers were Erik Stanland, Robbie Laster, Michael Wainwright, Josh Wainwright, Dylan Anderson and Ryan Anderson.
