Mrs. Betty Joyce Ray, 76, of Kingsland passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
Mrs. Ray was born in Woodbine on April 2, 1942. She was the daughter of the late John L. Sr. and Joyce Miller Walker. Mrs. Ray was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful friend to all. She loved to cook and most people knew her for her fried chicken, potato salad, divinity, chocolate delight, homemade biscuits, peach cobbler and sweet tea. When she wasn’t in the kitchen, you could find her in the garden working on her beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed sewing and all sorts of arts and crafts. Many people around knew how much she loved and enjoyed riding the buggy with her husband picking up cans. But, most of all, she loved taking care of all her family and friends. She will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Vernon F. Ray; her daughters, Patricia Pedigo of Woodbine and Wanda (Ken) Marshall of Kingsland; her brother, Donald Walker of Brunswick; her grandchildren, Brenda (Arnel) Douglas of Kingsland, Eugene Strowbridge of Bemidji, Minn., Megan (Kris) Lair of Biloxi, Miss., and Olivia Lowery of Woodbine; her great-grandchildren, William Stettler, Kaitlyn Lair, Madison Lair, Apollo Douglas and Kaiden Lair; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Ray joins her brothers Isaac and JW Walker in Heaven.
A gathering of family and friends began at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 21. A memorial service followed at 4 p.m. at Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland. Pastor Edward Flader of First United Pentecostal Church of Kingsland presided over the service.
The family requests any flowers given in her honor be live plants.
