Mary Veronica “Vera” Shewmaker, 92, of Kingsland passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018, at her residence.
Born Aug. 10, 1925, in Londonderry, North Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Maryann Madden. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hartford Leon Shewmaker.
Ms. Vera came to America following World War II. She had been a resident of Camden County since 1987 and was a devout Catholic. She was known for her quick wit, having an answer for everything. She was a people person, never meeting a stranger and loved Georgia. Ms. Vera was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved her little Westie, Paddy.
Survivors include her sons, James Shewmaker (Sharon) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Barry Shewmaker (Denise) of Oak View, Calif.; daughter, Kathleen Wood (Shawn) of Chapin, S.C.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, the reciting of the rosary and visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with Father Stephen Gergel presiding. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland.
