Amos Eugene “Gene” Simpson Jr., 54, of St. Marys died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 17, 2019, at Southeast Georgia Health System of Brunswick after an extended illness.
Mr. Simpson was born in Bristol, Pa., to Amos Eugene Simpson Sr. and Delores Dottie Reed Simpson and had made St. Marys his home for many years. He owned and operated G & S Towing, which fit with his hobby of automotive paint and body work and watching the Ohio State Buckeyes. He spent lots of time camping, fishing and enjoying the beach, but more than anything he loved his children and grandchildren and being their Papa.
Mr. Simpson is survived by his children, Renee Vila of Kingsland, Matthew Simpson of Murphysboro, Ill., Tiffany Privette (husband Donnie) of Kingsland, Rian Wacter (husband Cody) of Hilliard, Fla., Brianna Simpson of Kingsland, Steven Hill of Indiana and Sarah Hill of Savannah; 11 grandchildren; his parents, Amos Eugene Simpson Sr. and Delores Dottie Reed Simpson of St. Marys; four siblings, Bryan Simpson of Folkston, Chris Simpson of Jacksonville, Fla., Selena Simpson (husband Jimmy) of Jesup and Trevor Simpson (wife Laura) of Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A celebration of life service was held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at St. Marys United Methodist Church.
