William L. (Bill) Strickland was born Aug. 31, 1931, in Homerville in Clinch County. He passed away July 10, 2019, at his home in Waverly surrounded by his beloved family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. Strickland and Beulah Sears Strickland; his son, Terry Wayne Strickland, who died a couple of weeks after he passed; his brothers, Clyde, Hershel and Roy Strickland; his sister, Vida Faye Strickland Carlson, all of Homerville; his grandson, Robert Dillon Naves of Brunswick; his first wife, Helen Perritt Altman of Waycross; and his beloved wife, Aggie Harvey Strickland of Waverly.

Bill entered the U.S. Air Force at the age of 20 and was later assigned to the 3911th Air Police Squadron (SAC) with Air Base Group APO 197 at West Drayton Middlesex in England. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 3, 1955. Bill moved to Kingsland and spent most of his life in the Kingsland and St. Marys area. He worked at Gilman Paper Company until his retirement in 1990. He worked in the instrument department and was also a chemist in the lab.

Upon his retirement, he moved to Waverly and lived on the river at Hickory Bluff. He and his wife enjoyed this for many years. Their home was always open to friends and family. It was there that many fishing and shrimping days, and cook-outs were enjoyed by all. Due to health problems, they moved from the river to only a couple streets over, where Bill continued his gardening that he enjoyed so much.

Bill is survived by his two daughters, Jan Strickland of Waycross and Tonya (Mike) Holton of White Oak; his stepson, Mike Daskivich of San Antonio, Texas; his granddaughters, Nicole Gentry of Kingsland and Jennifer (Derek) Dixon of Waycross; his grandsons, Terry Strickland of Jacksonville, Fla., Travis Strickland of Kingsland and David Naves of Brunswick; and his great-grandchildren, Tristin Dixon and Natalie Strickland. He had many cousins, nieces, nephews and special cousins, Blenda Doran and Ed Lockliear.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Honey Creek Episcopal Church in Waverly. Food will be served after the service in the church social hall.

Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland is entrusted with Mr. Strickland’s arrangements.
