Daniel Leonard Sullivan was born in Needwood to the late John S. “Tommy” Sullivan and Beulah Mungin Sullivan and also reared by his late stepmother, Ella Bert Williams.
Dan was educated while attending Harris Memorial School in Silco and graduated in 1960 from Ralph J. Bunche High School.
Dan grew up as part of Wesley Chapel Church, Jeffersonton Community, Hamilton UMC in Woodbine. He later became a member of Railroad Avenue Church of God now Georgia Avenue COG under the leadership of Elder Thomas J. Myers Sr. and Bishop Arthur Dawson Jr. for 46 years where he served as deacon and church clerk faithfully for 38 years or more.
He was employed at Eppinger and Russell Pole Yard in Woodbine and Paulk Timber Company (Jesse Eason) in Colesburg.
Daniel married Barbara J. Dawson in December 1962 and this union brought about four children, two girls and two boys. His legacy of love, kindness, wit and generosity will be remembered by all and mainly his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Dawson Sullivan, of 53 years as of Dec. 24, 2015.
Surviving are his children, Veronica, Daniel Jr., Talvin (Ureka) and Melba (Darius) Dunson; 17 grandchildren, Elainna, DeOnte, Travius, Tionna, Te’auna, Tia, Temprance, Imri, Elon, Terrance, Ebonie, Alicia, Samuel IV, Greg, Bre’Ana, Jichelle and Jeffery; three great-grandchildren, Mario Jr., Jerimiah and Kaden; a brother, Hamilton M. Sullivan; three sisters, Marward (Tate) Sullivan Taylor, Johnetta Sullivan Williams and Lounita Sullivan Armstrong; 12 sisters-in-law; seven brothers-in-law; six godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Alexina.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 7, at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1365 Kinlaw Road in Kingsland. Interment in Woodbine Cemetery.
