Horatio “Rocky” L. Taylor Sr., 59, of Kingsland passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 6, 1960, to the late Deacon James Taylor and Helen Waye-Taylor in Camden County. He was educated in the public school system of Camden County and graduated in the class of 1978.
“Rocky,” as he was affectionately known in the community, was well-known for his abilities on the turntable and microphone as a DJ, his abilities as a mechanic but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Horatio was employed many years at Gilman paper mill and 10-plus years at Cyber Optics Underground Cable before becoming disabled. He was a member of First African Baptist Church in Kingsland since his early childhood years.
Horatio was preceded in death by his father, Deacon James Taylor; and his brothers, Eric Taylor Sr. and Timothy Taylor.
Those left to cherish his memory: his loving mother, Helen Waye-Taylor of Kingsland; his devoted fiancée, Wanda Simmons of Kingsland; his loving children, Thamechia Bob of Atlanta and Horatio L. Taylor Jr. of Kingsland; his sisters, Adell (Linwood) James of Kingsland and Jeanette Stevenson (Matthew) of West Palm Beach, Fla.; his brothers, Cornelius Taylor (Robin) of Kingsland, Kenneth Taylor (Denise) of Brunswick, Leonard Taylor (Sandra) of Jacksonville, Fla., Earl Nightingale (Felicia) and Robert Smith, both of Kingsland; his grandchildren, Alonna, Jayvyn, Horationa, Ja’Marien, Mylan, Jayvian, Jamarcus, Joshua and Aa’siyah Taylor, Ta’yanna and Tristan Bob; and naturally his furry baby Miss April Marie Taylor; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss him dearly.
A viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 15, at First African Baptist Church (old sanctuary side), 495 N. Lee Street in Kingsland.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at First African Baptist Church, 495 N. Lee Street in Kingsland. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to services
