WALKER — Royal Lee Walker, Jr., 77, of Woodbine died Friday, Oct. 25, 2019, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Camden of complications from his long and courageous battle with cancer.

A native of Camden County, Mr. Walker lived his whole life on the banks of his beloved Satilla River.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Royal Lee Walker Sr. and Rebecca Morrow Walker, and two siblings, Marie and Shirley. In his earlier years, he was employed at Gilman Paper Company and later retired as a supervisor at Glynn County Public Works.

Mr. Walker was a charter member and supporter of the Woodbine Opry and seldom missed a performance until his health failed. He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and an expert hunter, tracker and marksman. Mr. Walker was a kind and generous man who was a friend to all and an excellent neighbor.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Schlegel Walker; four children, Melba Parrott, Roy Walker III, Kristy Shannon (husband Michael) and Misty Soldatis (husband Dennis); a stepdaughter, Jennifer Kruger; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four siblings, Jeanette, Debbie, Lynn and Jaynie; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. 

The family will hold a memorial at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to Woodbine Opry, 205 Camden Ave., Woodbine, GA 31569.
