John L. Waye, 72, of Kingsland passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on May 3, 1946, to the late Curtis Waye and Madeline Lambert-Waye in Camden County. John received his education at Ralph J. Bunche High School and he was a 20-plus-year retiree of Gilman paper mill. He was also known for his lawn care services that he provided throughout the community.
John gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a dedicated member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Leon Washington, where he served faithfully as an usher and on the trustee board until his health began to fail. John was a fun-spirited, loving husband and a family man who will be sorely missed from our presence but will always be remembered for his love of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Waye and his brother, Harry Waye.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Geraldine Waye; his loving children, Pam (Carlos) Dilworth, Gerald (Paulette) Waye, Shanda Waye (Alex Hopkins), Tracey Waye and Pastors Kristie (Terrance) Dawson; his grandchildren, Brandon Waye, DeVonte' (Destini) Williams, Carlos Dilworth, Lexie and Layla Dawson, Trayvon Hopkins, Brandon Parrish and Jasmine Hunt; his beloved mother, Madeline Waye; his sisters, Sandra (Pastor Derry L.) Mainor, Thelma (Joe) Brown, Evangelist Annette Stanley and Lucinda (Barry) Hamilton; his brothers, James (Mary) Lockley, Lewis Waye, Deacon Kenneth (Loritha) Waye, Ulyssee (Marlene) Waye, Clifford Waye and Larry (Deloris) Waye; his aunts, Ocie (Willie) Armstrong and Essie (Al) Armstrong; his sisters-in-law: Dorothy (Nathaniel) Shivalier, Joann (Eddie) Powell, Margie (Charles) Jenkins, Catherine (Maurice) Poole; his brother in-law, Alphonso (Pat) Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There will not be a wake/visitation. Remains will lie in state for an hour prior to funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church on Kinlaw Road in Kingsland. Internment in Kinlaw Cemetery.
