Oscar Wells, 80, of St. Marys went to be with the Lord on May 28, 2016.
Oscar left home at the young age of 17 to serve for four years in the U.S. Navy. He then moved on to become an entrepreneur. He started a variety of successful businesses, including Baytown Homes, which led him to become an established homebuilder in the community. He was always known for his sharp mind and never forgetting a name. His gentle and kind heart is what drew others to him, and he will be remembered for being a strong mentor and friend.
Oscar was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia Wells of St. Marys; daughters, Lisa Wells Bettinger (Dennis) of Kingsland, Robin O’Brien Burton (Brian) of Lawrenceville and Kelly Witt Goering (Blair) of Parker County, Colo.; son, Jeff O’Brien of Washington, D.C.; brother, Bobby Wells (Brenda) of Coosawhatchie, S.C.; grandchildren, Ashley Gazlay (Scott), Jordan Keene, Kristin Burton, Victoria Bettinger, Ashton Goering and Emilia O’Brien.
Sylvia would also like to give special thanks to friend and caregiver, Brenda Lee.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, at Kingsland First United Methodist Church followed by a burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.
Pallbearers are Darrell Wells, Hal Weathers, Tom Turner, Jimmy Whiddon, Jim Jordan and Burt Lewis. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Dinkins and Floyd Morgan.
The family requests contributions in memory of Oscar Wells be made to Kingsland First United Methodist Church.
