Patricia Anne Williams, 71, of Woodbine departed this life on Friday, May 24, 2019, at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Fla.
Patricia Anne Gowen Williams was born Aug. 6, 1947, in Woodbine to Hattie Gibbs and the late Robert Gowen. Through the years, she was affectionately known as Pat.
Pat attended elementary school at Ralph J. Bunche High School in Woodbine. In 1956, her mother relocated to Miami. Pat attended Miami Northwestern Senior High School and graduated on June 5, 1965. After graduation, Pat continued her education by receiving certificates of completion from the Respiratory Therapy Institute Inc. in 1978, the Visiting Nurse Association in 1985 and Miami Lakes Technical Education Center for child care operator, teacher and director. She was employed by Mercer’s Church Supply and Printing and Beaver’s Kiddie Kollege as a pre-school teacher.
At an early age, Pat joined New Hope Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Elder H.C. Samuels. She was a faithful member of the mass choir, president of the No. 2 usher board, supervisor for the youth department and a member of the mission department. In 2012, Pat moved back to Woodbine. She joined First African Missionary Baptist Church in Kingsland under the leadership of Reverend K.C. Davis.
Besides her father, those preceding her in death are her son, Shawn Stephens; her grandparents, Ford and Geneva Harper; and her uncle, Willie Parish Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted mother, Hattie Gibbs; two loving aunts, Annie Ree Parish and Laura Dunn; first cousins that were like sisters and brothers, Janice (Robert) Patrick, Carolyn (Tommy) Brown, Cheryl Parish and Clarence Parish; special friends, Eddie Drummond, Deacon Harry and Lillie Gilliard, Deacon Ben and Joy Jest, and Minister William and Linda Jones; and a host of godchildren, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at First African Missionary Baptist Church in Kingsland. There will be no wake. Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery.
