Raymond (Ray) Edward Carpenter, 64, of Kingsland passed away Saturday afternoon, Feb. 1, 2020, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Camden after his longtime battle with lung disease.

Ray was born March 1, 1955, in San Diego, California, to the late Arthur Almon Carpenter and Norma Jean Johnson Carpenter. Ray was a devoted, hard-working, loving father and mentor who inspired many. Ray was a subject matter expert on operating powered industrial trucks and spent many years instructing others on how to operate them at Trident Refit Facility before retiring at the age of 60.

He enjoyed scuba diving in deep waters, trips to the Kennedy Space Center where he enjoyed viewing his father’s contributions to NASA and rocking out to The Doors and Led Zeppelin in his free time.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jean Clardy Carpenter, and sister, Kathleen Thorn.

Ray is survived by his daughters, Brandi Eggebrecht and Sara Terrio (husband Scott Terrio); son, Scott Carpenter; grandchildren, Brandin Carpenter, Norman Terrio, Ramsey Terrio, Raymond Carpenter, William Carpenter and Aubree Hudson; and numerous nieces nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Allison Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
