Ellen B. Chance, 75, of Kingsland passed away on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, at her home.

Minister Mother Ellen B. Chance was born on Feb. 17, 1945, to the late Rev. Harrison and Martha Broomfield in Savannah. She attended the Camden County school system after the Broomfield family relocated to this area, but received her high school diploma in Nassau County.

She was happily married to the late, Isiah D. Chance Sr., on July 12, 1977. She is the proud mother of three sons, Dr. Charles D. Buck (Tonya), Isiah D. Chance Jr. (Beverly) and Al Newman; and one daughter, Starla J. Broomfield. She is the grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of 30.

She was certified in child care and loved to cook and prepare nutritional meals. For many years, she worked at the Coastal Georgia Senior Citizens’ Center in Woodbine but retired from many years of work at the St. Marys Senior Care Center.

She fully gave her life to Christ in the year of 1981. She was a faithful member of Carnegie United Methodist Church for many years until she became a part of New Wave of Glory Christian Center in April of 1994, under the leadership of her son, Dr. Charles D. Buck.

Minister Mother Ellen B. Chance was faithfully devoted to God, her family, her church and her community. In all things she was focused, faithful, dependable, loving, durable and filled with wisdom.  She was a powerful prayer warrior, Bible scholar, minister and teacher of the Word of God and a faithful church mother as well. She had the loving and compassionate ability to make friends every where she went. She dearly loved all of her family with unconditional love, understanding and support.

Besides her parents and her husband, three beloved brothers, Fred Lanier, George Broomfield and Harrison Broomfield; one beloved sister, Minister Mary J. Taylor; two brothers-in-law, Herbert Hubbard and Leon Chance: one sister-in-law, Mary Lee Chance Hutchinson: and several nieces and nephews as well preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memories, three sons, Dr. Charles D. Buck (Tonya) of Kingsland, Isiah D. Chance (Beverly) of Cairo, Georgia, and Al Newman of Miami; one daughter, Starla J. Broomfield of St. Marys; two sisters, Bessie Hubbard and Shirley Benton; four sisters-in-law, Mary Lanier, Liz Broomfield, Rose Broomfield and Melissa Chance; 12 precious grandchildren; 30 precious great-grandchildren; and a beautiful host of precious nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, church children, classmates, coworkers, other family members and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Kinlaw Cemetery. There will be no wake.
