Body of second missing boater found

The body of a missing Harrietts Bluff woman was found at about noon Friday in the Little Satilla River near Raccoon Key.

Laura Hutchins, 61, and her husband, Raymond Hutchins, 59, left a Harrietts Bluff dock at about 11 a.m. June 5. Their son reported them missing the next morning to the watch standers at Coast Guard Station Brunswick, triggering a search by the Coast Guard, auxiliary, law enforcement and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Raymond Hutchins was found dead June 7 near the mouth of the Satilla River.

A Georgia DNR crew found the couple’s 21-foot boat — with the engine running and their dog still aboard — June 6 near the north end of Jekyll Sound.

An investigation is pending but DNR believes the boat became stuck on a sandbar and the Hutchinses left the boat to try to push it off, according to DNR investigator Cpl. Kate Hargrove.
