Catfish festival set for Saturday
The 36th annual Kingsland Catfish Festival on Saturday, Nov. 17, will include a performance by band Sister Hazel, pancake breakfast, entertainment, parade and, of course, catfish dinners in downtown Kingsland. The event also includes arts and crafts vendors.
The day opens with a 5K Turkey Trot at 8 a.m. that benefits Coastal Counseling Center. Registration will be open from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. at the Kingsland depot, 200 E. King Ave., and the fee is $35 through Friday and $40 on the day of the race. Participants can also register online until 4 p.m. Friday for $35 plus a $3 fee at https://runsignup.com/Race/GA/Kingsland/KingslandCatfishFestival5K.
Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age division. The first 100 pre-registered participants will receive a Turkey Trot T-shirt. The run will start at the depot and use a chip timing system.
Members of the Kingsland Lions Club will serve their annual pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. at 120 W. Williams Ave. The breakfast is $5 for pancakes, sausage, bacon, coffee and juices. Proceeds will go toward various charitable organizations that the Lions support. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
Vendor displays open at 9 a.m. with a parade at 10 a.m. A hospitality tent serving beer and wine opens at 10:30 a.m. with drinks for $5. Catfish dinners will also be available after 10:30 a.m. Each dinner includes Southern-fried catfish fillets, grits, coleslaw, hushpuppies and tea or water. Tickets are $8 in advance from the Kingsland Welcome Center and $10 the day of the festival.
