Former KPD officer indicted in fatal shooting

A Camden County grand jury has indicted a former Kingsland police officer on three felonies in the on-duty shooting death of Tony Green in June.

Zechariah Presley was indicted Wednesday on voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter and violating his oath office.

The grand jury also issued no bills on malice murder and felony murder. A “no bill” means that Presley wasn’t indicted on those counts and those charges won’t be brought against him.

Presley was arrested a week after the June 20 shooting on charges of voluntary manslaughter and violating his oath of office .

Green, 33, died after a brief altercation with Presley that resulted in Green being shot multiple times, according to GBI.

At about 10:42 p.m. June 20, Presley was following a vehicle near the intersection of Lily and North East streets in downtown Kingsland. The car stopped at an intersection and Green, who was driving, and a passenger jumped out of the car and ran away. Presley ran after Green and there was a physical altercation, then Green fled again and Presley fired his gun, according to GBI.

Presley was placed on administrative leave immediately after the incident and fired after his arrest.
