GSP investigating fatal accident
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating after an Ellenwood woman was killed in a car accident Monday in Kingsland.
The woman’s name has not been released pending notification of her family. At about 10 a.m. Monday, Nathan Ricks, 26, of Douglasville was driving east on Boone Avenue in a 2016 Hyundai Accent, according to GSP. The woman was a passenger in the Hyundai.
Ricks ran the stop sign at the Haddock Road intersection and struck the driver’s side of a 2014 Chevrolet pickup truck that was traveling north on Haddock. Both vehicles came to rest in the grassy median between Boone and Highway 40.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Ricks was taken to UF Health Shands and the pickup truck driver, Nicholas Piljay, 38, of St. Marys was taken to Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.
Piljay and the woman were wearing seat belts. It’s not known if Ricks was.
The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is handling the investigation.
