Man charged in shooting death
A St. Marys man has been charged with two felonies in the death of a Kingsland man early Monday morning.
Evins Vontravis Harris, 19, was arrested midday Monday, May 7, and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in the death of 22-year-old Darius Roberts. A person can be charged with felony murder if he allegedly causes the death of someone during the commission of a felony, such as aggravated assault.
Kingsland police officers responded to a Lawnwood Avenue residence at about 1:34 a.m. Monday morning and found Roberts, who had multiple gunshot wounds, laying face down on the floor, according to a press release. Officers and emergency medical personnel began CPR and took Roberts to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Kingsland officers began an investigation and a witness identified Harris as a suspect. At about 4 a.m., Harris came to the hospital and spoke with Roberts’ family. Kingsland officers and county deputies took him to the police department for questioning and Harris said that he had shot Roberts, according to the release and incident report.
Harris was arrested and taken to the Camden jail where he is being held without bond.
