Mother charged in baby's death
The mother of a baby who died last week is facing criminal charges in the child’s death. The case is still under investigation and other charges are pending.
Rhae Ellen Odum, 28, of Woodbine was arrested Monday morning and charged with involuntary manslaughter and second-degree cruelty to children, which are both felonies, after she was released from a medical facility.
Kingsland police officers responded to a local motel on June 19 because the child was not breathing. The baby was declared dead at the scene.
Detectives began investigating on June 19 and conducted follow up interviews that led to Odum’s arrest. The charges stem from physical evidence and statements from Odum, according to a Kingsland Police Department press release.
