Two men charged in armed robbery
Two St. Marys men are facing felony charges after allegedly robbing the Green Cedar convenience store on Dilworth Street in St. Marys.
Elijah Gary Oats, 19, and Tyler Rashard Lowe, 22, have both been charged with armed robbery and giving a false statement or concealing facts.
Two men robbed the store at about 10:56 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, and left with several hundred dollars in cash, according to a St. Marys Police Department press release. The store clerk called 911 and gave a description of the men. SMPD and deputies from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office responded and called in a CCSO bloodhound team.
As law enforcement officers were handling the call, another CCSO deputy made a traffic stop near Miller Street for a seat belt violation. He smelled marijuana while speaking with the driver and asked the four men to get out of the car. He searched the car, finding money balled up on the floor board and stashed under a seat. The amount was close to what the clerk had reported stolen.
SMPD officers arrived to assist the deputy and talked with the four men, discovering information that led to the arrest of Oats and Lowe.
The investigation is ongoing.
