Alpha Omega track team runs at Tampa meet
Braylon Kirkpatrick’s 800-meter victory was the best finish for the Alpha Omega track and field team at the Bay Area Youth Track and Field (BAYTAF) Classic last weekend in Tampa, Fla.
At the University of South Florida, Kirkpatrick, in the 9-year-old division, prevailed in 2:42.45 and edged runner-up Jeremiah Holassie of the Miramar Optimist Track Club by a touch less than a second-and-a-half. He was also seventh in the 200 final (30.52) after qualifying in 30.04, and ran a 14.79 in a 100 preliminary dash.
In the same age group, David Coleman placed fourth in the 400 (1:09.3) and fifth in the long jump (11-7 1/2), and registered 30.91 in a 200 qualifier.
Rickey Williams, racing against the 11-year-olds, collected eighth in the 800 (2:34.84) and ninth in the 400 (1:02.36). He also had the 15th-best time in a 200 prelim (29.46). A 10-11 3/4 effort put Dewain Coleman seventh in the long jump, and a 1:20.64 meant 15th in the 400, and he ran 34.42 in a 200 prelim.
In the 10-year-old group, Nikao Smith covered the 400 in an eighth-place 1:09.55, and posted times of 15.01 and 30.86 in the 100 and 200 qualifying sprints.
Emma Kirkland was runner-up in the 1,500 (5:45.83), and fourth in the 800 (2:53.16) among the 9-year-olds.
Also in that age group, Kaitlyn Smith finished fourth in the 1,500 (6:18.13) and eighth in the 800 (3:11.14); Cadence Williams fifth in the shotput (13-6); and Jaeda Colvin ninth in the 400 (1:16.35). In qualifying runs, Colvin posted 15.52 and Williams 18.07 in the 100, and Colvin 33.29 in the 200.
Madigan Kirkland, racing with the 11-year-olds, was second in the 3,000 (15:32.52); ninth in the 1,500 (6:33.89); and 16th in the 800 (3:27.04). In the 15-16s, Devon Frost took second in the 3,000 (14:29.91); seventh in the 1,500 (6:43.65); and 12th in the 800 (3:19.88).
Anika Reisman placed 14th in both the 800 (3:57.95) and 1,500 (8:08.7), and Anaya Reisman 15th in the same races (4:07.92 and 8:19.87).
