Kenneth Lee Harrison, 90, of St. Marys passed away Friday, May 25, 2018, at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.
Born Sept. 7, 1927, in Kingsland, he was the son of the late Robert Ward Harrison Sr. and the late Eva Bunkley Harrison. He was also preceded in death by his four siblings, Ruby Gowen, Robert W. Harrison Jr., Jessie Mae Pickren and Ethel Gowen.
Mr. Harrison was a graduate of Charlton County High School and attended the University of Georgia. Following his education, he married his childhood sweetheart, Jean Pickren Harrison on May 24, 1948. He went to work for the Charlton County Herald, which was founded by his father, Robert W. Harrison Sr. In April 1950, he moved to St. Marys and founded the Camden County Tribune and was editor until 1976. He then started Harrison Realty, retiring 15 years ago.
Mr. Harrison was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church since 1950, charter member of the Kiwanis Club and was on the board of directors of the First National Bank of St. Marys for 18 years. He enjoyed fishing and entertaining.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Jean Harrison of St. Marys; children, Mike Harrison (Lorraine) of Harrietts Bluff, Joe Harrison (Selena) of Aiken, S.C., and Jeff Harrison (Rita) of Harrietts Bluff; three grandchildren, Craig Harrison, Jamie Lynn Harrison and Marci Harrison Henry; three great-grandchildren, Reed Harrison, Louisa Harrison and Cole Harrison; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at St. Marys United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Jones presiding. Burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. at St. Marys United Methodist Church, Bailey Hall.
The family requests contributions in memory of Mr. Kenneth Harrison be made to the Methodist food pantry.
