GBI investigating fatal police shooting in Kingsland

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved fatal shooting that happened last night in Kingsland.

Anthony Marcell Green, 33, died after being shot multiple times by a Kingsland police officer who has not been identified. GBI is conducting an independent investigation at the request of the Kingsland Police Department, according to a GBI press release.

At about 10:42 p.m. Wednesday, the officer was following a vehicle near the intersection of Lily and North East streets in downtown. Green, who was driving, and a passenger jumped out of the car and ran away. The officer ran after Green and a “brief altercation” happened between them.

“The officer fired multiple shots, which resulted in the death of Green,” according to the released. “The passenger in the vehicle has not been located or identified.”
