UPDATE: GBI shares preliminary findings with family in officer-invovled shooting
State investigators and the district attorney briefed the family of a man who was shot and killed by a Kingsland police officer Wednesday about their preliminary findings in the case, according to an update from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Anthony Marcel Green died after being shot multiple times late Wednesday night by KPD officer Zechariah Presley. KPD has placed Presley on administrative leave.
At about 10:42 p.m. Wednesday, Presley was following a vehicle near the intersection of Lily and North East streets in downtown Kingsland, according to GBI. Green, who was driving, and a passenger jumped out of the car at an intersection and ran away. The officer ran after Green and a “brief altercation” happened between them before Green was shot.
“The GBI has reviewed video from the officer’s patrol car and video from the officer’s body camera,” according to the release. “Efforts are being made to enhance the video for a clearer view of the events that occurred. In addition, the GBI is awaiting processing of evidence at the GBI Crime Lab in Savannah, which includes autopsy findings. The videotape, as well as other information about the case, is not being released at this time because it may affect the ongoing investigation.”
GBI investigators continue to interview witnesses and are seeking information about the passenger’s identity. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the local GBI office at (912) 729-6198.
