Missing Florida woman found dead in Camden

A woman’s body has been recovered from the marsh after the man who allegedly killed her walked into an agricultural inspection station last night and told officers where to find her body.

Camden 911 dispatchers were alerted at about 9 p.m. Thursday that a man had come into an inspection station on Interstate 75 in north Florida and said that he was going to be wanted for killing his girlfriend and he had dumped her body in a river near Exit 7 in Camden County, according to the Camden sheriff’s office.

The man, Jeffrey Michael Morrison, was taken into custody by officers at the White Plains Agricultural Weigh Station. Morrison is currently being held on active warrants for armed burglary and attempted arson that happened June 21 in Peach County, Ga.

At daybreak today, CCSO deputies began searching the marsh and waterways along Crooked River with personnel from Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Camden emergency management and Florida agricultural officers.

A Georgia DNR helicopter crew spotted the body of Mitzi Marie Babb in the marsh west of Interstate 95 and her body was recovered at about 10 a.m. today. Babb was reported as a missing endangered adult earlier this week.

Investigators from Hernando County, Florida, arrived in Camden today to conduct a joint investigation with CCSO.
