Donald E. Weise, 81, of St. Marys passed away Thursday morning, June 21, 2018, at the Senior Care Center in St. Marys with his family by his side.
Born Dec. 8, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas, he was the son of the late Ernest and Kathleen Weise.
Don had been a resident of Camden County for the past 52 years, and was retired from Gilman Paper Mill with 34 years of service. Don was also a spotter for the Wildcat football public address announcer. In 1983 when O&M Wildcat radio broadcast started, he was the engineer there for 10 years. Don was so multi-talented, especially with his drawings that he was so well-known for. He also enjoyed coin and stamp collecting and photography. It has been said if you had the privilege and honor to meet the “tall Texan,” you met a mighty “good” man.
Don was a veteran of the United States Army serving his country honorably during the Korean conflict and was a member of the St. Marys First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 60 years, Mary Kay Weise of St. Marys; children, Donna Weise Strickland and her husband Richard of Brunswick, Robyn L. Ponsell and Chris Weise, both of St. Marys; sister, Carol Bond-Gerber; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held from the graveside at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys with Pastor Rick Douylliez presiding.
Memorial contributions in Don’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Golden Isles.
