Walter “Woody” Woodard, 80, of White Oak passed away July 11, 2018, at Lanier Terrace Nursing Facility in Jacksonville, Fl. following a lengthy illness.
He was born on June 16, 1938, to the late Dewey and Annie Givens-Woodard in White Oak. “Woody” as he was affectionately known by his family and close friends was educated in the public school system of Ralph J. Bunche High School where he graduated in the Class of 1957. He was a former employee of Humphrey’s Mining Company in Folkston. He worked as a logger for many years as well as at Gilman Paper Mill where he worked for 19 years before retiring.
Walter was preceded in death by both parents, Annie and Dewey Woodard; his siblings, Alberta Roche, Aggie B. Tyson, Lynwood Woodard, Edward Woodard, Dewey Woodard Jr. and Mary Sauls; a grandson, Bryan KeAndre Jones; and a stepdaughter, Sheila Hicks.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his five children that were born from his 22-year union to Marie Woodard-Taylor, Gwendolyn Woodard, Walter Lee Woodard Jr. (Sebrena), Kathy Jones, Michael Woodard Sr., Kimberly Drummond (Tracy Sr.) and Sheryl Parker; his sister, Dorothy Hutchinson; his brother, Robert “Buck” Woodard Sr. (Carrie); his extended family that was like a son, Alvin Harris; a stepson, Willie Hicks (Shirley); a special niece that he reared, Ureka Sullivan (Talvin); his grandchildren, George Javan Jones, Kristen Jones, Jeremy Jones, Ryan Washington, Walter Woodard III, Jamion Woodard, Luther Chambers, Tiffany Hodge, Brittany Woodard, Michael Woodard Jr., Melinda Woodard, Cassius Robinson, Bieshea Dorsey, Tracy Drummond Jr., Jasmine Drummond, Greg Adams, Krystal Parker and Gilbert Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will truly miss him.
A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 16, at Oak Hill Methodist Church .
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, at Jerusalem No. 1 Baptist Church, 300 Bailey Mill Road in White Oak.
