Norman Chris Peeples, 64, of Woodbine passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018, at his residence.
Chris was born on Sept. 30, 1953 in Brunswick to Kenneth and Wynelle Peeples. Mr. Peeples spent many childhood summers on family farms in Camden County, working in tobacco fields and developing a love for animals, a trait he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Chris was a graduate of Brunswick High School and, after a short stint in the U.S. Army, he served his community as a firefighter for several years. For 10 years, he was employed by Gilman Paper Company in St. Marys before going into business with his wife Pam, brother Hugh and sister-in-law Mari Anne. Together, they owned and operated Salvador's Delicatessen in Brunswick for many years. Chris and Pam then branched off on their own with P & C Deli. Both restaurants were well-known in the community for their quality foods and southern hospitality.
Before his health began to decline, Chris was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping. His hobbies also included carpentry, gardening and customizing golf carts. He was a Georgia Bulldogs fanatic as well as an Atlanta Braves fan.
Mr. Peeples was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth H. Peeples; his mother, Wynelle (Peeples) Jewell; and his sister, Sherry Lynn Sturdivant (Chuck).
He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Pam; children, Angie Self (Steve), Shane Peeples and Brian Peeples (Crystal); his brother, Hugh Peeples (Mari Anne); three grandchildren, Alyssa, Nathan and Taylor; a sister-in-law, Robin Hunt (R.D.); and his niece and several nephews.
The Peeples family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, for fellowship and refreshments at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia.
Arrangements are entrusted with Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
