Camden County High School does not have a new football coach.

A 3:30 p.m. school board meeting Friday resulted in delaying the hire.

“In executive session, I essentially just informed the board that we concluded interviews last night, and I have not heard from all the references,” Camden County Schools Superintendent Tracolya Green said. “It was a quick turnaround, probably too aggressive in hindsight to schedule this board meeting today. I want to put the best in front of the board, and it’s important for me to substantiate that by speaking to their references.

“So far, I’ve only spoken to two references for the top two candidates that were presented to me from the committee. I just didn’t think that it was fair without properly vetting to put forth a vote, so I asked for an additional round of interviewing and vetting with the top two candidates. I’m sorry I don’t have someone today, but it’s just not something that I can rush, a decision I can rush to make. I just don’t think that is fair to our community.”

The school district is seeking a replacement for Jeff Herron, who announced his retirement from coaching earlier this year.
