Ms. Mary Gertrude Campbell, affectionately known as Sweetie to some, 81 of St. Marys, passed away on the afternoon of Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick. Ms. Campbell was born on June 2, 1940, in Brunswick to the late Albert and Mary Screws.
Ms. Campbell was full of life and love. She loved to travel and visiting any area with a mountain view was her favorite place to go. She had a passion for playing her Dobro guitar, singing and in her younger years dancing. She always told her family, “I could cut a rug with the best of them.”

She loved a good laugh and conversation. She would sit and talk for hours about life, family and God. All you had to do was lend an ear and listen, she would do the talking. She believed in the love of family and the importance of family sticking together. She would do anything to help you if you ever needed it.

She had many things she was proud of in her life. Most importantly was her kids, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter. She would beam with joy with every new grandbaby that she got to hold. She had a special gift of being able to comfort a fussy baby. Her most recent joyful moment was when she finally became a great-great-grandmother. The happiness she felt when she finally got to hold her fifth generation could be felt by everyone. She never took a single moment of life or time with her family for granted. She will be sorely missed by everyone who ever had the great pleasure of knowing her.

Ms. Campbell is survived by her children and their families, Becky McNeil (Darrell Hinton), Darlene (Jason) Denison and Robin (Shelby) Sweat, all of St. Marys, her grandchildren, Wade (Jennifer) Sweat, Wendy (Chris) Willner, Thad Bryant, Chadwick (Allye) McNeil, Jason Sweat, Ashley (Will) Kramp, Robbie Hinton, Jeremy (Becca) Sweat, Tessa (Brandon) Jacobs, Taylor Wood, Daphne Skipper and Devin Skipper; her great-grandchildren, Heather (Jamie) Stanley, John Sweat, Christian Willner, Haley Sweat, Natalie Willner, Cayden Willner, Grant Cothern, Carson Sweat, Zelda Sloan, Lyla-Belle McNeil, Heidi Kramp, Cason Sweat, Chelsea Wood, Tanner McNeil, Lilly-Anne Sweat, Evelyn Wood, Jo-Jo McNeil, Florence Jacobs, Harper Lindstrom, Maggie Sweat, Devin Skipper Jr., Emberly Lindstrom and Nova Skipper; and her great-great-granddaughter, Emma Stanley.
Besides her parents, Ms. Campbell was preceded in passing by her sister, Edna Screws; her infant daughter, Marlene Sweat; and her husband, Alan Wilkerson.
