Ernest Edwards, 74, of Woodbine passed away at Southeast Georgia Health Systems – Camden Campus, on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022. God stepped in and said take your rest, your assignment is complete.

Deacon Ernest Edwards was born on Jan.  24, 1948, in Savannah to the late Louise Lee and Ernest Edwards Sr.  He was educated in the public schools of Chatham County and graduated from Tompkins High School and Harris Street Trade School.

Forty-one years ago, Deacon Edwards met and married Rev. Dr. Karen Wilson Edwards. To this union, one son was born, Benjamin Nehemiah Edwards.

Deacon Edwards was dedicated to his job at Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, where he had a work family to enjoy. He was dedicated to his church, Jerusalem No.1 Baptist Church and his church family. He served on the financial aid board, was newly appointed as chairman of the deacon board and he also served on the evangelist ministry.

Deacon Edwards leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Rev. Dr. Karen W. Edwards, Woodbine; three sons, Ernest Edwards III, Savannah, Steven Edwards, Hardwick, and Benjamin Edwards, Woodbine; two daughters, Jasmine Jones Edwards, Elkridge, Maryland, and Melinda Powell, Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Marvin (Cassandra) Edwards, Delta, Pennsylvania, and Ronald Edwards, Savannah; five sisters-in-law, Cynthia (Aaron) Walker, Meredian, Valencia Lidge, White Oak, Martina (Cyrus) Roberts, Kingsland, Lynn (Rodrick) Hamilton, Kingsland, and Sheryl (Curtis) Williams, Woodbine; 17 grandchildren and a special grandson, Jaylan Gaines, Mars Hill University, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Feb 19, at Oak Hill Cemetery, 3-R Fish Camp Road, White Oak. There will be no wake or visitation.
